Compose an argument and support your claims with valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence from the text, including direct quotes and page numbers. Use specific details from both works to support your answer.

  3. a. Comment on Ray Bradbury’s prescience and on how technology is influencing the way we live –for better and/or for worse.
    b. Explain the relevance of the story to the real world nuclear scenario.
    c. From a list of quotes by Ray Bradbury, choose one and discuss its connection to the story.
    d. Explain the connections between the story and the poem, “There Will Come Soft Rains” by Sara Teasdale.

  4. Thursday: Omelas - Read and annotate story using "Reciprocal Teaching."
  5. Friday: Begin Responding to Text Dependent Questions:
    1. How does the author describe the city of Omelas? What is the tone of the story at this point? How does the author achieve this through word choice?
    2. Why does the narrator think seem to doubt that we will believe in and accept the description of “the festival, the city, the joy?”
    3. How does Le Guin’s use of pronouns help you decide where the narrator is from? A Citizen of Omela? A former citizen of Omela? An outsider observer looking in?
    4. Choose a word to describe the citizens of Omelas, and explain why that word is best.
    5. Draw a line through the paragraph where the narrator stops talking about the citizens of Omelas and starts talking about our own society. Give a reason the narrator praises the citizens of Omelas and their society. Give a way the narrator finds fault within our society. How does word choice show the effect of this contrast?
    6. Which of the narrator’s statements sheds doubt on Omelas’ perfection? Why does the narrator assume the reader doesn’t believe in the perfection of Omelas?
